• Must have a college degree with units in Anatomy and Physiology.
  • Must be a certified ICD-10 Clinical Coder of the Department of Health.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of medical terminologies and each definition.
  • Must have attended a training course in medical records management.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of experience in the medical records department of a reputable hospital/institution.
  • Must have assumed supervisory or related positions.
  • Shall act as the head of the service/department.
  • Shall represent the department to top management.
  • Shall exercise direct administrative supervision and control over all subordinates in the department.
  • Shall establish policies and procedures for the content, control, storage and retrieval records.
  • Shall organize an effective workflow throughout the service.
  • Shall meet and discuss with the administration or other departments within the hospital issues related to Medical Records department.
  • Shall ensure the maintenance of the patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality of documents.
  • Shall attend court proceedings and represent the hospital in court cases involving Subpoena of medical/clinical records.
  • Shall supervise the evaluation and quality control of specified areas within the MRD.
  • Shall serve on appropriate committees and attend meetings of relevance to the MRD.
  • Shall answer inquiries regarding patient information recorded in the patients charts provided there is a written order from the attending physician.
  • Shall plan staff, space and equipment of the department.
  • Shall assist the medical staff in research projects.
  • Keep abreast of current medical record practices.
  • Perform other related functions as may be assigned.
